Local "Insider" Tips
- Read the Greens: Expect the greens to break towards the nearby Intracoastal Waterway, so keep this in mind when lining up your putts.
- Watch the Winds: Afternoon breezes can be tricky, especially on the back nine, so account for wind direction when selecting your club.
- Stay Hydrated: The warm coastal climate can be deceiving; always keep a water bottle handy to stay refreshed throughout your round.
Caddie's Bag Check (Weather & Gear)
The typical weather in this coastal region is warm and humid, with temperatures often hovering in the high 80s and occasional afternoon showers. Given the likelihood of humidity and the potential for rain, it’s essential to prepare accordingly. Since the wind kicks up on the back nine, a sturdy windbreaker is non-negotiable here. This will keep you comfortable and dry while allowing you to focus on your game without distraction.
Course Heritage & Design
Designed by Nick Price / Craig Schreiner and established in 2001 as a Private facility.
Co-designed by World Golf Hall of Famer Nick Price, the Members Course at Grande Dunes is routed along the Intracoastal Waterway with several holes offering stunning marsh and waterway views. The design emphasizes strategic play with generous fairways that narrow near the greens, rewarding well-placed drives.
Signature Holes
Hole 14 (Par 4, 410 yards): A dramatic par 4 running along the Intracoastal Waterway with marsh and water on the right side. The green sits near the waterway's edge, making the approach shot one of the most scenic and demanding on the course.
Hole 18 (Par 5, 545 yards): A sweeping finishing par 5 that plays along the Intracoastal Waterway to a green with panoramic views of the waterway and surrounding marshlands. Risk-reward options abound on this closing hole.
Local Weather Intelligence
Myrtle Beach has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. Ocean breezes moderate temperatures, but summer heat and humidity can be significant from June through August.
Best months to play: March through May, October through November
Wind pattern: Coastal breezes from the Atlantic are common at 8-15 mph, and the holes along the Intracoastal Waterway are particularly exposed to tidal winds.

Reading Coastal Wind: How the Marine Layer Reshapes Pebble Beach, Bandon, and the Pacific Coast Game
Coastal golf does not play by inland rules. The marine layer suppresses wind in the morning, then releases it through midday in a thermal cycle that turns a calm 7am tee into a 22mph back nine. Here is the meteorology behind the pattern, the G-Score data that confirms it across the Pacific coast, and the morning workflow that turns the marine layer from a confusion into a competitive advantage.
