The atmosphere here is welcoming yet competitive, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed day on the links or an intense match with friends.
Local "Insider" Tips
- Greens often break towards the nearby creek, so keep an eye out for subtle shifts in elevation.
- The back nine can experience strong afternoon winds, so adjust your club selections accordingly.
- Don't underestimate the importance of your short game here; the undulating greens can make or break your score!
Caddie's Bag Check (Weather & Gear)
The weather in this region is typically mild with a chance of wind, especially during the afternoons. Given the possibility of sudden gusts, a sturdy windbreaker is non-negotiable here. It will keep you comfortable and focused on that perfect putt rather than the elements. Pack it in your bag, and you'll be ready to tackle anything the course throws at you!
Course Heritage & Design
Designed by Desmond Muirhead (Dinah Shore Course, 1972), Pete Dye / Arnold Palmer / Gary Player (additional courses) and established in 1972 as a Private facility.
The flagship Dinah Shore Tournament Course features wide fairways, dramatic water hazards, and large, undulating greens set against the Santa Rosa Mountains. Designed to provide both a fair members' course and a championship test for one of golf's most prestigious women's events.
Tournament History
- Chevron Championship (formerly Kraft Nabisco / Dinah Shore)
- 1991 Senior PGA Tour event
Signature Holes
Hole 18 (Par 3, 165 yards) — “Poppie's Pond”: The most famous finishing hole in women's golf, where champions traditionally leap into Poppie's Pond after winning. The pond-fronted green creates tension on every tee shot.
Hole 5 (Par 4, 440 yards) — “Mountain View”: A sweeping dogleg with water along the left side and the stunning Santa Rosa Mountains framing the approach to a green tucked behind bunkers.
