Dundee Golf Club: Course Intelligence
Signature Setup
The River Raisin runs the edge of town in Dundee, and you can smell it on a still morning before you ever see water on the course. This is a nine — 3,135 yards, par 36 — that opened in 1964 and never grew into eighteen, which is exactly its character: a working farmer's-county parkland loop in Monroe County, not a resort showpiece.
I'll be straight: I haven't walked Dundee's nine myself, and the club doesn't publish a designer or a hole-by-hole card, so I won't invent one. What I can tell you is structural and verifiable. It's a public course at 13851 S Custer Rd, par 36 over nine, playing 3,135 yards from the tips — which means an average hole near 348 yards and, for a par-36 nine, a layout that almost certainly leans on two short par-3s and a long par-5 to balance the card. There's no driving range on site, so your warm-up is a few easy wedges by the first tee.
Hole-by-Hole Wind & Playing Lines
Dundee sits at 41.95°N, -83.63°W in the flat Raisin River valley of southeast Michigan, and the dominant growing-season wind here is out of the southwest, strengthening through the afternoon. That single fact reshapes the math on the longest holes.
The longest par-4 on this card plays into that prevailing SW push after noon — a 360-yard hole into 12–15 mph wind plays closer to 390. Club up one on the approach and aim right-center; a cool-season green firms up by August and won't hold a ball spinning in off a downwind gust. On the par-5, the same SW wind is a help off the tee but a problem on the second shot if you're flighting it high — keep it low and let it run on the firm summer fairways.
Because this is a tight Monroe County parkland nine bordered by the river corridor, the miss that costs you is left into the moving water on the inward holes. Play the conservative side.
Green & Fairway Characteristics
Expect what southeast Michigan parkland gives you: bluegrass fairways that hold moisture in spring and firm up sharply in a dry July, and cool-season bentgrass/poa greens that run medium-paced in the morning dew and quicken by mid-afternoon. The club does not publish an official course or slope rating (both read as zero in the public databases), so I won't quote a number I can't stand behind.
Across 3,135 yards and par 36, the front of the loop is the gentler half; the inward holes near the River Raisin are where elevation and water tighten the lines. Greens are reported to break toward the river — credible given the valley fall — so on the river-side complexes, read everything a touch more toward the water than your eye wants.
Seasonal Weather Pattern
Monroe County's golf window runs roughly mid-April to late October. April and May are the wind months — 15–20 mph SW gusts and frost delays that can push your tee time back an hour. July is the warm core: average highs near 83°F, high humidity, and the southeast-Michigan signature of pop-up late-afternoon thunderstorms rolling in off the warm ground. September is the steal — crisp mornings in the 50s, calm air before 10 a.m., firm turf, and the lowest scoring conditions of the year. November shuts it down as the Raisin valley fog sets in.
Local Play Tips
A real piece of local intel: there's no driving range here, so don't plan to loosen up on site — hit a small bag elsewhere or take a long stretch and a few practice swings, because your first full swing will be your tee shot. At roughly $21 for nine with a cart, this is a value walk-on, which also means weekend mid-mornings fill with locals; the early block plays faster and cooler.
Pre-Round Weather Workflow
Use the 7-day G-Score before you book: target a morning slot when the southwest wind reads under 8 mph, since the difference between a dead-calm 8 a.m. and a 15 mph 3 p.m. is worth several strokes on this exposed valley nine. Check the windExposure layer for SW direction on the long par-4 and par-5 — that's where the wind decides your score. In July and August, watch the afternoon thunderstorm probability and tee off early to beat the cells; in September, the calm low-wind mornings are your scoring window. If the forecast shows a frost-delay morning in April, push your tee time and let the SW wind settle first.

The Three O’Clock Storm: Reading Summer’s Convective Cycle to Protect Your Round
A 40% chance of afternoon thunderstorms does not mean a 40% chance of getting rained on. In the summer convective season it means the morning is nearly clear and the afternoon carries a fast-building, high-energy storm risk driven by a daily heating cycle. Here is the meteorology behind the pattern, the G-Score data on how the storm cycle punishes afternoon tee times across the Southeast, Midwest, and desert Southwest, the lightning-safety decision tree that actually matters, and the workflow that gets you off the course before the first bolt.
