Greystone Golf & Country Club: Course Intelligence
Bob Cupp designed Greystone Golf and Country Club in 1991 on a piece of Birmingham, Alabama Hoover suburban land south of the city. The course was conceived as a tournament-ready private facility, and the PGA Tour Champions' Bruno's Memorial Classic (later the Regions Charity Classic) was played at Greystone across multiple years, giving the routing significant Champions Tour exposure through the 1990s and 2000s. Cupp routed the eighteen holes through natural Alabama Piedmont rolling terrain with significant elevation changes and the natural creek system as architectural defense.
The course plays around 7,300 yards par 72 from the championship markers, with bermuda fairways and a slope in the upper 140s. Cupp's signature throughout is the strategic-design principles that depend on tee-ball positioning, the large green complexes set on natural rises, and fairway corridors that demand specific approach angles. The fifteenth hole is a 521-yard par-5 along a natural creek; the seventeenth, a 218-yard par-3 across a natural pond, is the routing's most-discussed one-shotter. The mature pine and deciduous canopy gives the property a distinct Alabama-suburban visual character.
Greystone Golf and Country Club operates two courses (the Founders Course is the original Cupp design, and the Legacy Course was added later) and is private with members-and-guests access. The Champions Tour rotation hosting through the Bruno's Memorial and Regions Charity Classic years is part of the institutional identity. The hospitality model is traditional country club.
Alabama Piedmont climate gives Greystone a playing season of March through November, with the firmest conditions in October — the Regions Charity Classic window historically. Birmingham summers run hot and humid; morning rounds are the routine member play through July and August. The course closes through brief winter cold snaps.
