Rio Secco Golf Club: Course Intelligence
Rees Jones designed Rio Secco Golf Club in 1997 on a piece of Henderson, Nevada Las Vegas south-suburban canyon-and-ridge desert land. The course operates as part of the Caesars Entertainment resort-golf network, with the property serving as the home of the Butch Harmon School of Golf — Tiger Woods's longtime instructor's flagship teaching academy through the 1990s and 2000s. Rio Secco gained additional national attention through its association with multiple PGA Tour pros who used the property for off-season practice.
The course plays around 7,332 yards par 72 from the championship markers, with bermuda fairways and a slope in the upper 140s. Jones routed the eighteen holes through significant elevation changes — the canyon-and-ridge topography produces 100 feet of vertical between holes — with the natural desert washes and the canyon walls as architectural defenses. The fifteenth hole is a 521-yard par-5 along a natural canyon; the seventeenth, a 215-yard par-3 across a desert wash, is the routing's most-discussed one-shotter. The native desert outside the playing corridors gives the property visual signature consistent with the broader Las Vegas Valley golf landscape.
Rio Secco Golf Club is open to resort guests and the public at premium daily-fee rates. The Butch Harmon School of Golf institutional connection gives the property a particular national-golf identity, and the Caesars Entertainment resort network provides the broader hospitality framework.
Las Vegas desert climate gives Rio Secco a playing season of October through May, with the firmest conditions in February and March. Summer afternoons routinely exceed 105°F and the course operates on shortened seasonal hours through June, July, August, and September. The canyon-and-ridge setting and the desert sunset light through the closing holes give the property its distinctive Las Vegas Valley character.
