The Golf Club at Dove Mountain: Course Intelligence

Jack Nicklaus designed The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in 2008 on a piece of Marana, Arizona Sonoran Desert land north of Tucson. The site occupies a stretch of Saguaro National Park-adjacent desert with significant elevation changes through the property and native saguaro, ocotillo, and palo verde as the architectural landscape. The course hosted the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship from 2009 through 2014, putting Dove Mountain in the WGC rotation during a stretch when the match-play format was at the peak of its modern popularity. Dustin Johnson, Hunter Mahan, and Matt Kuchar all won the event at the routing.

The course plays around 7,791 yards par 72 from the championship markers, with bermuda fairways and a slope in the upper 140s. The back-tee yardage is among the longest in American Tour-rotation golf, and the desert elevation (2,500 feet at the property) extends iron carry by roughly four percent compared to sea level. The fifteenth hole is a 491-yard par-4 with a green set against a natural saguaro stand; the eighteenth, a 543-yard par-5 with a creek crossing in front of the green, has decided multiple WGC editions in match-play format. The native desert outside the playing corridors is the architectural defense — the routing's fairways are narrow ribbons through the natural Sonoran landscape.

The Golf Club at Dove Mountain is open to public daily-fee play at premium rates, with The Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain resort as the primary access partner. Caddies are available; carts are standard for daily-fee play given the desert terrain. The WGC rotation since 2014 has moved on, but the course remains in the broader Tour-event conversation.

Sonoran Desert climate gives Dove Mountain a playing season of October through May, with the firmest conditions in February and March (the historical WGC Match Play window). Summer afternoons routinely exceed 105°F and the course operates on shortened seasonal hours through June, July, August, and September. The spring saguaro bloom — typically May — is part of the routing's seasonal visual signature.
