Wayzata Country Club: Course Intelligence
Wayzata Country Club operates on a piece of Wayzata, Minnesota Twin Cities western suburban land near Lake Minnetonka. The course has operated continuously since the early 1900s, with the modern routing reflecting multiple eras of architectural work and agronomic updates. Wayzata sits in the broader Lake Minnetonka country-club cluster that includes Spring Hill Golf Club and other private Twin Cities-area clubs, and the membership composition reflects the Minneapolis western-suburb business and professional families.
The course plays around 6,800 yards par 71 from the back markers, with bent fairways and a slope in the upper 130s. The yardage is moderate by modern standards, and the routing's defense is the mature tree canopy alongside the fairway corridors and the green complexes set on natural rises. The fairways play firm given the Minnesota subsoil. The fifteenth hole is a 432-yard par-4 with a tee shot played over a natural depression; the seventeenth, a 198-yard par-3 across a natural pond, is the routing's most-discussed one-shotter.
Wayzata Country Club is private and access is members and accompanied guests only. The membership is regional Twin Cities western-suburban business and professional families with multi-generation ties. The hospitality model is traditional country club, and the club has stayed largely outside the destination-private trend that has reshaped many newer Minnesota clubs.
Minnesota Twin Cities climate compresses Wayzata's playing season into April through October, with the firmest conditions in late July and August. The course closes through Minnesota winter and reopens when the soil thaws. The Lake Minnetonka proximity and the mature tree canopy give the property cooler summer conditions than the open prairie courses elsewhere in the Twin Cities.
