Best Time to Golf in Texas: Month-by-Month Weather & Where to Stay

Texas golf lives and dies by two seasons that are not summer or winter. Spring and fall are superb across the state — mild, green, and reliable. Summer is a heat-and-humidity gauntlet, especially toward the Gulf, and winter brings the occasional sharp cold front that can shut a round down for a day.

FAQ

Planning your Texas golf trip

When is the best time to golf in Texas?

Spring (March–April) and fall (October–November). Both bring warm 71–82°F days, low humidity, and minimal storm risk — the highest G-Scores of the year. Avoid the July–August heat, when highs top 95°F statewide.

Is it too hot to golf in Texas in summer?

June–August is brutal: 93–97°F highs, high humidity toward the Gulf coast, and afternoon thunderstorms. It is dawn-only golf. Green fees drop sharply, so early risers can find summer value — but plan to be done by mid-morning.

Does it ever get too cold to golf in Texas?

Occasionally. Winter is generally playable, but sharp cold fronts (locally called blue northers) can drop temperatures 30–40°F in hours and shut a round down for a day, especially in the north. Check the forecast the day before in December–February.

Where should I stay for a Texas golf trip?

Austin for Hill Country golf and nightlife, Dallas–Fort Worth for the widest flight access and course density, and San Antonio for resort golf and a slightly warmer winter. All three anchor strong course clusters.
